Match : St Neots Town v Halesowen Town
Squad : Bowen, Quincy, Richo, Beebs, Laddsy & Kenny
After the expense of the previous trip we decided on something closer to home for the final footy trip of the season. At the time of organising St Neots Town were fighting a relegation battle as were their opponents Halesowen Town. However by the time the day came around both teams had failed in the fight and so this was a dead rubber.

Could be any 'spoons but it is The Weeping Ash...honest |
With no breakfast start we took on some 'spoons food - you know the stuff - not great but good enough to eat, cheap as the proverbial chips and with a free pint. The Weeping Ash is standard 'spoons fare. Look around and you could be in any of 80% of their estate. Only gripe was we had to wait for Beebs' kiddies meal but it came eventually.
Next up The Pig 'n Falcon - literally next door to the Weeping Ash. The Pig is a spit and sawdust sort of place. A bit scruffy, a bit untidy - just the sort of place we like. A good choice of beers and a sweet local dog meant we had to drag ourselves out.

We had time for one more before we headed to the ground so made a choice to go to The Corner House. Once inside our first decision was to change the pints to halves. The beer choice was poor unless you like lager. We watched the end of the Tottenham v West Ham game whilst downing our halves and ignoring the smell from the toilets.

The House Where Pooh Lived |
As said the ground is neat and tidy - covered at both ends with a main stand on one side. We settled behind one goal, sheltering from the cold April breeze. The game itself was fairly competitive considering both sides were already relegated. The early exchanges were going the way of the home side and they went ahead within the first five minutes when Dan Trendall netted. St Neots continued to have the better chances throughout the first half but couldn't add to their lead. Half Time 1-0.
It didn't take long for the visitors to find their way back into the game as on 53 minutes the ball rebounded off the home post only for a charitable defender to knock it into the net. Halesowen's former pro Lee Hughes brought himself on in the 2nd half and made a bit of difference but couldn't add any further score. In the end St Neots finished the stronger but it was to finish all square.
And so it was back in Steve's taxi and back to town. A swift one in The Coach House and then it was on for dinner. We chose the Bosphurus Meze and Grill Turkish Restaurant which was just around the corner. It was a good choice. We kicked off with a great platter of hot and cold starters followed by a variety of kebabs and Turkish delights. All in all a very satisfactory finish to the day.
Then it was just done to Steve and his taxis to transport us back to the station and homeward bound.
