Northern Premier League Division One Midlands
Stamford AFC 3 Carlton Town 0
Me + Quincy
Short trip to see Stamford AFC and see if they could clinch promotion - they didn't as results didn't go their way. Easy win but Carlton players and supporters were the ones celebrating hardest!

FA Cup 1st Preliminary Round
Soham Town Rangers 2 Thetford Town 0
Uninspiring game livened by mountainous centre half who looked like anything but a player and then popped up to score a sumptuous volley from a tight angle to give Soham the lead.

FA Cup 2nd Preliminary Round
Spalding United 0 Stamford AFC 1
Lively local derby spoiled a little by too many niggly fouls and stoppages. The only goal of the game came on 26th minutes when a cross to the back post was headed against the upright and the ball fell nicely into the path of Margotts to head into the empty net. Spalding threatened more when they made changes in the 2nd half but couldn't find the breakthrough. As for the food the burger was not great but chips were good. Lots of parking close by and a tidy if unispiring ground.

Midlands League Division One
Hinckley AFC 2 Paget Rangers 1
So a Monday night visit to see Hinckley AFC who currently groundshare at Barwell's 3G facility. A nice ground with a decent atmosphere for the size of the crowd. The visitors were unbeaten coming into the game so I was hoping for a good game. To kick things off I tried the chips with the welcome addition of some gravy - nice.

Paget had started the more assured and looked a good, well drilled side pinging the ball about confidently. Hinckley gradually came into the game through the half though and did have have the best chance of the first half when they were awarded a penalty. James Reid struck it too straight however and it was saved well enough by the Paget keeper. Half time 0-0.
Hinckley came out and looked the better side in the 2nd half and were rewarded when a long cross free kick was guided in by Joe McNulty whose run was not picked up by the Paget defence.
Not long after James Reid made amends for his penalty miss by firing in a 2nd and now it was the home side looking assured and confident. After that Paget huffed and puffed but Hinckley always looked in control. Paget did get an injury time consolation from the penalty spot but it was not to be enough and Hinckley were good value for their 3 points.
Good atmosphere from the crowd although the bar area leaves a little to be desired!!
